So, whats up?

As we speak, I am in the final phase of completing a new instrumental album rooted in the Dutch song tradition —

drawn to the quiet brilliance and compositional depth that often lies beneath its modest surface.

What is frequently remembered as straightforward or unassuming reveals, with careful attention,

a deeper and more intricate musical architecture. Rather than reinterpreting these songs directly,

I explore their underlying structures and allow them to unfold in a new way.

Alongside the album, a visual narrative is taking shape — a comic inspired by the same songs and interwoven

with subtle biographical elements. Drawing and composition evolving side by side.

The final work will take the form of a book containing a CD — an object meant to be held, listened to,

and gradually discovered. An invitation, to return to the experience of studying album artwork while the music

quietly fills the room (who doesn’t remember?).

There is a quiet sense of nostalgia in this project. Not as longing for the past, but as appreciation for a time

when songs could be mischievous (‘ondeugend’), layered, and quietly profound — when shouting

was not appreciated as means be heard.

At its core, this work is guided by curiosity. The deeper I explore this heritage, the more it reveals

— not only about the songs themselves, but about the act of listening. This curiosity, I’ve come to realize,

is not just about discovering the past, but the present as well.
